There is no substitute for the timeless aura of black and white especially when it comes to interiors. For Our Home, this cannot be more true when we purposely create settings and vignettes, set-ups and tableaus that are totally dramatic and stark for the month of August. Black and white for this month traverses the achromatic scheme. An achromatic color scheme is a color palette that makes use of the non-colors; black, gray and white. August showcases this color scheme to elicit an urban vibe staged in an atmosphere of dramatic contrasts, a stylish and sophisticated ambiance and a cosmopolitan and contemporary design feel without sacrificing style and substance, function and comfort – but with one caveat, we decided that we were going to freshen it up with the addition of bonsai arrangements as our pop of color.

Set against a backdrop of white French windows, the entrance focal boasts of a unique L-shaped sectional sofa in black leather upholstery. The stylish quality of the sofa comes alive in the smoothness and sleekness of the leather with fine white stitching that echoes the attention to detail and craftsmanship afforded to this couch. A pair of white, boucle upholstered swivel tub chairs captures the contrast while on the couch, a mélange of assorted throw pillows in a variety of modern b and w patterns add an interesting texture to the seats. A coordinated set of center, side and console tables punctuate the living room setting in beige and grey marble surfaces. A grey and beige modern center table is placed in the middle of the sitting pieces and on top, a bonsai arrangement adds a fresh element. Beside, a set of two black wrought iron candelabras add an air of sophistication. The side table is made of the same grey and beige marble. This table carries a contemporary table lamp with a glass base and a white fabric shade. The console table contains hurricane lanterns in black cast iron and another table lamp is displayed. A pair of tall traveler’s palm trees flank the setting at the back adding to the green elements while underfoot an area rug with printed designs in gray, black and white evoke a sense of luxury and comfort. A lone, white, tufted, leather ottoman complete the setting while at the same time, provide additional seating options.

A grey and beige marble surface dining table for six graze the dining room vignette. Surrounding the table are four grey leather guest chairs designed in a very contemporary yet comfortable style. This time the backdrop is of a white bay window in white mullions and transoms. Inside, a tall black fluted sideboard is added for storage and serving purposes; on top of which is a table lamp and behind, a tall palm tree stands adding to the fresh feel. Atop the dining table is another bonsai arrangement interspersed with a trio of black wood turned candleholders with white decorative candles. Another printed rug in abstract gray and black patterns anchor the entire setting and a above a modern pendant lamp highlights the illumination of the space.

A black, fully upholstered bed with a tufted black leather headboard evokes a luxurious feel in the bedroom vignette. The classic and elegant feel instantly gives off a modern and contemporary mood to the space and as such, intentionally using matching bedside tables in black wood with fluted details seem to be the order of the day. White, crisp, and immaculate white linen sheets provide the obvious contrast and a slew of geometric patterned bed pillows elicit a playful and trendy vibe. At the foot of the bed, a lounge setting is installed consisting of a set of black and glass nesting tables and gray swivel chair. Off to the side, a black, fluted, wooden chest of drawers complete the bedroom setting. A set of paneled French windows in white enclose the setting while on both sides, tall bamboo trees frame the vignette adding a touch of green.

Simple yet effective, minimal yet loaded with stark contrasts and dramatic flairs, August takes on the black and white approach evoking a sense of urban feel amidst contemporary and modern furniture and furnishings – with bonsai arrangements added for a unique twist on styling.
